The extension of Røros World Heritage Site
Odd Sletten
As early as 1993 the ICOMOS committee, which evaluated the condition of the World Heritage Site, recommended extension. Subsequent to that report the South Trondelag County initiated a project with the name, ‘Demarkation, Preservation and Management of the Røros World Heritage Site’, in cooperation with the Chief Inspector of The Inspectorate of Ancient Monuments and Buildings and Røros Municipality.
The report from this project was submitted in 2001. It recommends that a selection of cultural areas, certain cultural monuments and the surrounding countryside should be included in any extension, and that the areas within the circumference should have the function of a buffer zone.
The Chief Inspector is now engaged in the comprehensive task of extending the Røros World Heritage Site. See also Miljostatus I Norge.
